I have a discovery range (say 10.1.1.* 255.255.255.0) with a lot of different types of hosts: physical windows, physical linux, ESX 4, esxi 5.1, etc.
My discovery range included lots of protocols (SSH, SNMP, WSMAN, IPMI, etc). However I was getting unpredictable results. It would only discover some of each host -- lost were missing.
My colleague called Dell Tech Support, and they recommended using different discovery ranges for ESX (which uses SNMP) vs ESXi (which uses WSMAN). That did produce better results, but that's not very scalable. That would require I setup individual host discovery ranges to split everything up. I couldn't use the entire subnet.
That sounded a lot to me like a bug, but tech support said it was working as it's supposed to. Is there just some kind of a misunderstanding here?
